If you thought Destiny 2 would conclude with The Final Shape and the end of the Light and Darkness saga, think again. Bungie has exciting plans that promise to take the game beyond our solar system.
In an exclusive interview with GamesRadar, Bungie developers teased the future of Destiny 2. They shared details about the three Episodes coming in Year 10 while hinting at monumental changes ahead, possibly exploring galaxies beyond our solar system.
Assistant Game Director Robbie Stevens stated, “We really wanted to make sure that The Final Shape and the culmination of the ten-year journey have a lasting impact. So Year 10 is really all about the consequence of that conflict. It’s a bridge into the next era of Destiny.”
Bungie has teased the next era, codenamed “Frontiers.” While this title may change, it signifies a bold new direction for Destiny 2, hinting at adventures beyond the familiar solar system.
Stevens added, “We didn’t want to immediately leave The Final Shape and do something completely different because that feels like it would kind of ruin what everything culminated to. But, at the same time, we wanted to start doing new things, right? Episode One: Echoes is meant to send a clear signal to players, to everyone who loves Destiny, that this isn’t the end. It’s a new beginning.”
Year 10 focuses on the aftermath of The Witness’s defeat, exploring the spread of power from the combination of Light and Darkness across the galaxy. The episodes include:
Beyond Year 10, Bungie remains tight-lipped but hinted at “big plans” involving significant world-building and universe expansion. Stevens mentioned, “We’ve been working on expanding our worlds and world-building, expanding the universe of Destiny in general.”
As Destiny 2 prepares to explore new frontiers, players can look forward to leaving the comfort of Sol and venturing into uncharted territories. The future holds countless mysteries and adventures beyond the stars.
